Over the last four decades Ben & Jerry’s has made it a point to get involved with political issues, and this week they’ve taken things a step further by introducing an anti-Donald Trump flavor of ice cream.
Tuesday, it was announced that the brand would be unveiling Pecan Resist, a limited batch flavor that features chocolate ice cream with white and dark fudge chunks, pecans, walnuts, and fudge-covered almonds.
The label features caricature depictions of three women of color with the central figure holding up a sign that says, “Resist.”

“Today we launch Pecan Resist!” the ice cream company proudly declared on their Instagram page.
“This flavor supports groups creating a more just and equitable nation for us all, and who are fighting President Trump’s regressive agenda,” the message continued. “We cannot be silent in the face of the President’s policies that attack and attempt to roll back decades of progress on racial and gender equity, climate change, LGBTQ rights, and refugee and immigrant rights – all issues that have been at the core of our social mission for 40 years.”
The Ben & Jerry’s Foundation was created in 1985 to support grassroots activism and community organizing, and has previously shown support for the Black Lives Matter movement and Rock The Vote.

In 2015, they renamed their Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough ice cream to I Dough, I Dough in honor of marriage equality. In 2016, they made a new flavor called Bernie’s Yearning in support of then-presidential candidate Bernie Sanders. They later came up with an EmpowerMint flavor to promote voting rights.
In addition to being featured on cartons, Pecan Resist is also the name of Ben & Jerry’s campaign to peacefully resist the Trump administration, and proceeds will go towards helping four organizations: Color of Change, Honor the Earth, Neta and the Women’s March.
Last month, brand founders Ben Cohen and Jerry Greenfield also announced that they were creating special flavors paying homage to seven Democratic candidates running for office in the midterm elections.
“We need a Democratic majority to check President Trump’s unrestrained power,” Cohen and Greenfield previously said in a statement shared with MoveOn. “And we also need to send progressive champions to Congress who will fix our health care system with Medicare for All, protect clean air and water, and get big money out of politics.”
