Ava DuVernay gets a new anthology series, ‘Cherish The Day’ on OWN

Director and producer Ava DuVernay has another show coming to the OWN Network.

According to Deadline, OWN, Oprah Winfrey’s network, Cherish the Day is “a straight-to-series order.” The new series is an anthology from the director and Warner Horizon Scripted Television, which is part of DuVernay’s deal with Warner Bros. TV.

Winfrey will serve as executive producer alongside the award-winning director. The two are already working together on OWN’s other hit show, Queen Sugar.

Tanya Hamilton will hold positions of executive producer and showrunner and is also set to direct the series premiere. Paul Garnes, who has already worked with DuVernay on Queen Sugar and Selma will also executive produce the new series.

The anthology series, created by Duvernay will focus on the love between a couple’s romance. Each episode will take place on a single day and each episode will reveal occurrences in relationships “to hold true to the ones we love, from the extraordinary to the every day.”

“OWN is home,” DuVernay said. “I’m honored to create television for a network headed by an artist with spectacular vision and unbridled passion for the stories that we want to tell,” said DuVernay.

The series is produced by Forward Movement and Harpo Films for OWN and it is associated with Warner Horizon Scripted Television.  

“Ava is a visionary storyteller. She brings so much care, so much heart, so much love to the art she creates,” said Winfrey. “I’m excited to continue collaborating together with our very first anthology series for OWN.”

Cherish the Day is set to have a premiere on OWN in the winter of 2020. It will join other popular shows on OWN like Queen Sugar, Greenleaf, The Haves and the Have Nots and If Loving You is Wrong.

Two more shows are set to premiere on the network this year. Be on the lookout for Ambitions by Will Packer and David Makes Man, by  Oscar award winner for Moonlight, Tarell Alvin McCraney.
