Upon arrival to the U.S. Meghan Markle, Duchess of Sussex, said she was inspired by the Black Lives Matter protests honoring George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor.

In an interview with The 19th, a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom reporting on gender, politics, and policy, Markle spoke about being a bi-racial mother and said she is happy to be home.

The interview took place during The 19th Represents Virtual Summit. Markle spoke with The 19th CEO and co-founder, Emily Ramshaw.

“It was so sad to see where our country was in that moment. If there’s any silver lining in that, I would say that in the weeks after the murder of George Floyd, in the peaceful protests that you were seeing, in the voices that were coming out, in the way that people were actually owning their role,” Markle said.

“It shifted from sadness to a feeling of absolute inspiration, because I can see that the tide is turning,” she continues.

As theGrio previously reported, Markle and her husband Prince Harry, Duke of Sussex, had relocated to a new mansion, owned by Tyler Perry, in a Beverly Hills.

They recently moved into a new home in Montecito, California, one of the wealthiest areas in the country.
