News 5 Cleveland reported in Green, Ohio that a resident claimed an unknown person came into his yard on Wednesday and took down one of his anti-Trump signs and another person shot at the “Dump Trump” sign through the window. According to the report, the window and the home’s siding were damaged by the gunfire. Authorities said they recovered two shotgun shell casings from the scene according to News 5.

Yard signs in support of Democratic nominee Joe Biden and Kamala Harris were also targeted this election season. According to theGrio, a Biden/Harris sign was shot six times outside a Pennsylvania home last month. The victim said their home was one of few on the street that publicly displayed support for the Democratic party.

“I live in a small town, and I live a mile down a dirt road, so, to me, it has to be someone who lives around here,” said the resident Erin Blaisure according to the report.

In 2017, theGrio reported two Baltimore teenagers were charged with hate crimes after burning a sign in support of Trump.  The fire set to destroy the sign spread to vegetation and caused $800 in damage before being contained by the local fire department according to the report.

“The intentional burning of these political signs, along with the beliefs, religious views and race of this political affiliation, directly coincides with the victim,” law enforcement said according to theGrio.

It is not clear what charges the person who shot at the “Dump Trump” sign will face as police investigation continues.

Trump won the state of Ohio as votes were counted in the 2020 presidential election. NPR reported despite close polling, Trump took the Buckeye state with 53.4% of the votes. Biden earned 45.2% votes with 1.4% going to other candidates. POTUS also won the state’s 18 electoral votes in 2016.
