This week, reports have surfaced that urban model and gossip blog fave Blac Chyna is planning to release her own line of skin-lightening cream and not surprisingly, her fans are NOT feeling it.
According to People, the 30-year-old mother of two partnered with beauty brand Whitenicious by Dencia to launch her own line of creams that claim they can restore the skin’s “natural glow,” by attempting to make you look like a white woman (privilege sold separately.)

Tuesday, the Ads for “Whitenicious X Blac Chyna Diamond Illuminating & Lightening Cream” began popping all over Instagram. In one of the ads, Rob Kardashian’s baby mama can be seen holding up a $250 Swarovski crystal-studded jar full of self hate, while his bother in law Yeezy’s hit “Flashing Lights,” plays in the background.
If there was a 2018 award for the “Most Problematic Display of Bad Life Choices,” this clip of Chyna exploiting the insecurities of young Black people to make a coin would be a strong contender for the medal.
The whole concept is so bad, it would be satirical is it wasn’t so damn — sad.
I’m usually an advocate of women being empowered to make their own choices (whether I agree with them or not), but in this case I very distinctly feel like Harriet Tubman did NOT help slaves escape to freedom just so their descendants could shoot videos with the camera flash set to “extra bright” — in an attempt to turn our community into an ashen army of Sammy Sosas.

I can’t help but wonder what Chyna’s “team” was thinking when they green-lit this ill conceived modern day minstrel show. Because even Tokyo Toni could see this was a bad idea through those batwing lashes of hers.
And to add insult to injury, its now been announced that the reality star is going on tour in NIGERIA to make sure our African sisters and brothers have an opportunity to witness (and take part in) this foolishness up close and personal.
“Blac Chyna is taking advantage of the insecurities of colourism and self hate. She is disgusting,” posts one of the many outraged fans on Twitter. “This should not be advertised and she is choosing Africa for a reason. Shameful.”
To that poster’s point, it does seem mighty suspicious that the promotion for this product would be focused on the motherland, where westernized standards of beauty have caused millions of men and women to put their lives in jeopardy in an effort to be as white as possible.
It’s almost like whoever came up with this collaboration is going out of their way to hit us where it hurts.

I gotta come clean, when Chyna first started scamming the Kardashians to get her reparations from a family that is arguably our generation’s most successful culture vultures, I — like many woman of color — chuckled and wished her well.
But now that she’s turning on her own, it’s no longer a laughing matter.
And the saddest part is, none of this would be happening if there wasn’t actually a market for it. Somewhere right now, there’s a young lady saving up for butt injections, while praying this overpriced beauty supply bleaching cream goes on sale in time for Black friday.
What a time to be alive, eh? *insert frustrated sob*
