A Port Charlotte, Florida, high school teacher who decorated her classroom door for Black History Month with a creative display of Colin Kaepernick taking a knee to protest police brutality was forced to take it down.

The display of the former San Francisco 49er quarterback, who recently settled a collusion case against the NFL, was deemed “offensive” by a barrage of parents, WINK News reports.

The math teacher, Alissa Perry, who created the display, made an emotional video explaining that she had to take the beloved picture down.

“Thank you all for participating in this,” said Perry. “I’m going to go ahead and remove this, OK.”

The Charlotte County School District claims the school received several negative calls about the Black History Month celebration.

“We were getting parents complaining and everybody, and we just thought we have to put an end to this,” said Mike Riley, Charlotte County School District spokesperson. “It was a lose, lose situation for us.”

Jaidyn Etheart posted the video of the teacher tearing down the display.

“I believe these boys from our school saw it, took a picture of it and put it on Snapchat, and said it was offensive,” Etheart said.
