Video of little girl dressed as Kamala Harris goes viral

This week an 11-year-old girl dressed like Kamala Harris went viral ahead of the vice presidential debate and we can totally see why!

According to Good Morning America, when Celeste Harley decided to play dress-up in her mother’s blue blazer, pearl necklace and heels while walking across her debate stage (i.e, her family’s driveway), it became very clear who she was emulating as she gave her opening remarks to an audience of one (her mom).

“When I become vice president, I want to help all the American people. I want to deliver health care for all, equality and justice under the law,” Celeste said while waving to an imaginary crowd.

As many of the headlines have stated since Joe Biden made his historic announcement about his running mate, Democratic vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris is the first Black woman and the first woman of Indian descent to be nominated for national office by a major political party.

But what many don’t seem to realize is how impactful it is for Celeste and other young women of color like her to see themselves represented by Harris on such a huge political platform.

“I had to laugh,” Erinn Harley, Celeste’s mother told ABC News. “Because I thought, ‘Wow, she really has been studying Kamala Harris very closely, she even had that wave.'”

What makes this clip even more heartwarming is that Celeste’s mother still remembers holding her when she was a newborn in the hospital on election night as Obama gave his acceptance speech.

“It was a moving moment for me,” Erinn Harley said. “When I was 11 I didn’t have anybody standing on that American political stage, not at this level. So it’s certainly, for me, moving history forward.”
