R. Kelly to request permission to leave country for Dubai concerts

R. Kelly’s lawyer, Steven Greenberg, plans to file a motion on Friday to see if the R&B singer can travel to Dubai on a private jet to perform at concerts that were already scheduled.

According to Variety, Kelly is not able to leave the country legally, since he is facing 10 counts of criminal sexual abuse charges against four women. Three of the four women were under age during that time.  The judge handling his sexual abuse case commanded that he surrender his passport.

The set of concerts are scheduled between April 17 and April 19. The motion will refer that three to five shows that are scheduled to take place on those dates were formerly booked.

Greenberg is also set to reportedly argue that Kelly must travel due to his job. He already has revealed that Kelly is dealing with financial issues.

Kelly was recently arrested for not paying more than $160,000 in child support, he owes his ex-wife, Andrea Kelly. Kelly has since been released from jail.

The controversy surrounding the Lifetime docu-series, Surviving R. Kelly and more sexual allegations against Kelly have caused the embattled to deal with more legal trouble and backlash from many people across the world.

Last month, Local politicians in Australia were advocating banning Kelly from entering the country to perform or his tour. A Germany arena also canceled its contract with him to perform for a show on April 12.

A representative for Lifetime told Variety, “We are proud that Lifetime was able to provide a platform for survivors to be heard.”
